Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley reacted to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) proposed solution Thursday to keeping the spread of the coronavirus in check.

“To get the virus under control, we need to pay people to stay home,” AOC briefly tweeted.

Several hours later, after receiving some backlash, AOC followed up with a second tweet, writing “Republicans are mad at this when they literally just voted to do just this in March. The reason they’re opposed to it now is because last time they got a Wall Street bailout and this time all that’s left is helping working people, the disabled, the poor, etc.”

Responding to her suggestion, Haley asked, “AOC, Are you suggesting you want to pay people to stay home from the money you take by defunding the police? Or was that for the student debts you wanted to pay off, the Green New Deal or Medicare for All?” adding the hashtag #WhereIsTheMoney.

Haley was referring to the congresswoman’s support for canceling student debt and the Black Lives Matter-initiated “Defund The Police” movement, as well as her advocacy of the single-payer healthcare system Medicare For All and her proposed Green New Deal climate and clean energy plan which is estimated to cost tens of trillions of dollars over 10 years.

Shortly after AOC was first elected to Congress in 2018, The Washington Post fact-checker gave the progressive congresswoman “four Pinocchios” over her inaccurate estimation that the Pentagon could have paid about two-thirds the entire cost of Medicare For All.

“$21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions ‘could not be traced, documented, or explained.’ $21T in Pentagon accounting errors. Medicare for All costs ~$32T. That means 66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in December 2018.
